Shared blister with echosounder
Does anyone here have any experience of mounting a NOrtek ADCP in the same under hull blister with an echosounder transducer? The installation in question would involve mounting the Nortek ADCP just aft of the echosounder's 12/210 kHz or 33kHz transducer. I'm not sure that interference would be a problem due to the different frequency ranges used by the two devices, but if anyone has successfully installed in this manner (or had problems with it!) I would greatly appreciate their input!
Thanks very much,
Dirk Fitch
Hi Dirk, here at Nortek we have limited experience with echo sounders but I would think the distance between the echosounder and the current profiler doesn't matter too much. If there is acoustic interference, it will will happen whether the sensors are 10 m apart or 2 m apart. The reason is that the echo sounder beam width is quite large. As for the chance of interference, I have not heard of any problems with the 1 MHz current profiler. For the 190 kHz unit, the echo sounder usually has to be turned off.

Hi Atle, and thanks for the reply! I was mistaken on the frequency, our profiler is actually 150 kHz (could be 190, but 150 seems to be familiar?) . At any rate, we do plan to install the profiler head approximately 650mm aft of a 38kHz echo sounder with a 9ยบ beam width. Do you think that would pose a problem?
Dear Dirk, I am sorry but if you have a 150 kHz system is doesn't come from us..... Maybe it is 1.5 MHz?
