First cell

发贴人: Sandrine Robin - May 10. 2010

Dears,

I would like to use an aquadopp profiler 2 MHz with a blanking distance of 10 cm and cell size of 10 cm.

What about the data quality for the first cell?

Thansk for your answer

Sandrine

Dear Sandrine, 10-cm blanking will only work if the acoustic scattering level is high, like in a river or near a beach.  If the water is clear, the blanking has to be increased to ensure that the data quality is high.

Conditions may change over time so trying to get away with a minimal blanking means that the data quality may not be consistent throughout the deployment period.  Our general recommendation would be to use a more conservative blanking size if you are not sure the scattering conditions will be favorable.

Best regards, Atle Lohrmann

Dear Atle,

Does it mean that the measurement's quality can be bad for all the cells?

What is the minimum blanking distance to have a good data quality for all 10 cm size cell?

Best Regards

Sandrine

No, the data quality is (almost) independent for each cell so the second cell can be good even the first cell is not.  A "safe" blanking is 0.2 m (or 0.3-0.4 m if you are in the open ocean).   Best regards, Atle Lohrmann
